![]() I reckon this is our 9th visit to the plot so far this year. Primarily we came down to add a cleaning agent to the water butts, but we did also work on a couple of beds. ![]() Prepared and planted a bed of early potatoes. ![]() Also prepared the bed next to the strawberries ready for planting a couple of asparagus.

![]() Another gloriously sunny day, lots to do so out with the picnic stuff. Louise came down to bird-watch - saw two crows fighting off a bird of prey, and a couple of wrens and a fieldfare. ![]() The small fruit cage has been leaning precariously across the path for nearly a couple of years now; so time to fix it. ![]() One of the main support posts was rotton and loose and needed replacing. ![]() Time to get all the tools out. ![]() Fixed the small fruit cage............... ![]() ...........including the door, which now hangs straight and stays open. ![]() Netted the onions....... ![]() Tidied up and fixed the edgings for the flower and comfrey areas. ![]() Also finished laying the black matting and chippings in the large fruitcage. ![]() The grapevine is coming into leaf early this year. ![]() We also met our new neighbour today, Simon, who's taken over Barry's plot. He's not planning on planting anything this year, just trying to make the place tidy....... ![]() The large fruit cage was leaning somewhat so we reinforced the worst corner by replacing the post. ![]() The finished post. ![]() We replaced several of the bed edges and ends. In this one we then planted some early potatoes. ![]() There was a third of a bed of onions which we filled with a couple of early varieties; Hercules and Sturon. ![]() Laid some black matting on to the bean bed to suppress weeds in preparation for planting. The bean trenches were prepared a couple of months ago. ![]() Actually came down yesterday and spent a full day just doing odd jobs and fixing beds etc. Brought all my tools down for the first time this year. ![]() Put new supporting batons on both fruit cages to help keep the fruit inside the cages and put new membrane in the large cage. General tidying up of both cages. ![]() Also fixed the board edgings to a number of beds where the wood had either come away or just rotted. ![]() The plot next to ours has a new owner and bit by bit it's being flattened. Still a lot to do............. |
