We planted plenty of leeks....
We have some tiny, tiny pumpkins.

We've had a decent spell of weather recently so plants other than weeds are growing well. We planted plenty of leeks.... We have some tiny, tiny pumpkins. The picnic area is completely shrouded by the vine and clematis, and the roses within are looking and smelling lovely.

With nearly a couple of hours assistance from Stacey we have almost completely caught up and got on top of the weeding. We finally got the wallflowers planted beneath some netting. A general view across the plot................ looking good. The weeds had got a strong grip on many of the beds, especially the mares-tail, so for the next two or three visits it's going to be our main task. Having said that we also need to get on with planting stuff as the cold and wet Spring has put everything two to three weeks behind. We cleared the bed next to the composting area and planted with Butternut Squashes. Carrots and artichokes are doing well. Squashes and tomatoes are catching up. Today we planted the sweetcorn.beind the ucumbers. We also planted several beetroot today as well. Finally, we get some decent weather, and what happens..........? ............. weeds! Today we planted some squashes in the bed by the rhubarb. My new support frame for the tomatoes seems to be holding!!!!! We also planted a couple of pumpkins. Some cucumbers too. We decided to pop down to the allotment late Sunday morning, which is unusual for us, but following the cold and wet in March, April and into May we are currently around three weeks behind and we wanted to get the tomatoes in. I've constructed a new support system for the tomatoes to see if we can improve the quantity and quality. The asparagus has shot up in the warm rain we've recently had. Managed to weed another bed, but in this weather the weeds row as fast as we pull them up. The new trellising in the seatng ara is looking good. Potatoes need mounding up................again. The rain has also boosted the wildflower bed. We've had a few days of decent weather so everywhere should be dry. We have a couple of little helpers with us today. I've fixed some old trellising from our back garden (that we've had replaced) onto the back of the seating area for the grape to grow through and for added privacy and quiet. The potatoes need mounding up.......... The artichokes seem to be at home in the bottom "arrid" bed, look to be the best ever. |
