Went down for just over an hour after work. Picked some carrots and cleared and dug over another bed. Pulled up the rest of the celery and dumped it on the compost as what was left wasn't particularly brilliant and we had loads of celery already. Also picked a couple of celeriac and a couple of turnips.

Spent a couple of hours generally tidying, weeding and putting compost and manure down. We've used quite a bit of compost from the first bay as can be seen by the "watermark" at the back. The large fruit cage is now ready for winter. Looks a lot tidier.
Only spent about four hours down the plot today yet still managed to fit in pie and chips and roe and chips. Cleared and manured a couple more beds and picked some cabbages. Celeriac still looking good. Tidied up the soft fruit a bit too..........
For the first time this year we decided to cover/protect the water butts. Not sure if these bags will stay on in really strong winds though......
After the exceptional summer we've had all the produce is doing well but the grapes could have been fantastic if only we'd pruned and trimmed them properly.
Popped down after work just for an hour and a half. Picked celery and carrots and dressed a few beds with compost and manure........ Top-dressed with bagged manure from Webbs but also used our own compost from Bay 1. After a couple of years it's more or less perfect.
This may well be quite a long blog as the last two visits to the allotment haven't been described due to Weebly being down. Anyway, went down today to do some work, the previous couple of visits were mainly to pick, though we did dig over and weed several beds. Today we screwed wooden batons onto a number of the bed-surrounds; decided they would be more sturdy than just canes. So, the pictures below show, initially, the work we've done today, then the photo's that follow show a selection of the produce we've picked recently and the beds we've tidied. Today we also cleared the netting off the back wall and used some tarpaulin to waterproof the "Office" and protect it during the winter. We planted some onion sets today and we also raised one of the scaffolding-board surround onto bricks to see if that helps stop the wood rotting during the winter. Finally, below are some of the beds we've cleared and tidied and dug over during our previous two visits and also some photos of the produce we've picked - it's been a good year. Note in the two pictures above hoe we've protected the water butts for the winter......... hopefully.
