We had a Subway meal each for lunch and left about 3:30PM. Mick came over trying to give away his excess beetroot but there weren't any takers.
![]() No specific extra photos today. Went down for about four and a half hours yesterday but just tidied round, weeded and picked some fruit and veg. Louise and Stacey both came down. Louise brought her new binoculars to admire the wildlife. A baby robin hopped around the seating area. We had a Subway meal each for lunch and left about 3:30PM. ![]() Went down for a couple of hours this morning mainly to prune the grape that's become a bit overgrown. ![]() Hopefully this will make the vine put it's energy into the grapes rather than extra growth. ![]() Still a few onions to pick and the ones that are left are pretty big now. ![]() Picked a couple of sweetcorn. Look very nice. ![]() Also bought a new cover for the bench and seats as the previous one was almost ripped to shreds. ![]() Spent pretty much all day down the allotment doing the paths, as there's a new supply of chippings and also cleaning out and re-doing the lid of the storage area next to the shed. It's now got a roofing felt lid - but I forgot to take a picture. ![]() Tidied up a few of the beds, including the strawberry bed, and netted the leeks. ![]() Planted the Goji berry in a tub in the top fruit cage ![]() Pumpkins a nice colour, if a little small. ![]() Sweetcorn is nearly ready to pick, I think. ![]() Tomatoes are as good as we've ever had; just hope nothing happens before they ripen. ![]() The trusses on the smaller variety are the longest we've ever seen. ![]() The "open" celery doesn't look any different at this stage to the "enclosed" celery. Wonder if they'll taste any different. ![]() Just popped down for a couple of hours to do odd-jobs. Dug a deep trench in the recently vacated potato bed by the cemetery wall and added some compost from the first compost bin to help moisture retention and give the bed some body as it's like dust; but at least it's easy to dig. ![]() A fresh delivery of chippings meant that we could lay some more down on the paths and in the fruit cage. ![]() Grapes seem to be doing extremely well. Just hope the weather remains nice and warm for a few more weeks. ![]() Went down yesterday after visiting the Book Fair at Baddesley Clinton and also went down this morning, Weather is now more unsettled - got soaked at Baddesley. Just picked some more soft fruit, beans, courgettes and emptied the potato bed by the cemetery wall. ![]() Grapes are looking very impressive. if the weather can stay warmish until into September then we may get a good crop. |
