![]() Back to the allotment only two days after our previous visit and this time we intend to stop all day. Weather forecast is good and the temperature is just about right for working. I've started off todays entry with some general shots of the allotment. Looks very tranquil and the views across the cemetry add to the peace and quiet. ![]() We picked some cabbages today. I made a cutting "block" for down the allotment that's ideal for trimming down vegetables thus saving taking loads of extra veg matter home; and what's cut off can go straight onto the compost heap. It sits neatly and firmly on top of the compost front panels. ![]() Some wild ornamental grasses have been gowing in the paths so we dug them up with a view to transposing them into the garden (ours or Becky's?). ![]() As we're going to be down here all day we set up the "picnic" area. I think it's what you would call "functional" rather than aesthetically pleasing; but it does the job admirably. ![]() Did a lot of weeding and general tidying up today. We're on holiday in a fortnight so it's unlikely we'll be back down for a month. ![]() Tidied up and sieved one of the compost bins. We've now got some half-decent compost to add to the beds either before winter or early spring. This pile has been decomposing for about eighteen months. I suppose it would be quicker if I made an effort and turned it every few weeks. ![]() The rest of the compost bin is higher than ever. Going to have to call a halt soon at this rate. ![]() Sweetcorn looks good but they don't seem to be ripening, even in this late sun that we're having, ![]() Celery's still growing. Stalks aren't particularly big though. ![]() Some of the produce we picked today.

![]() At last, two red tomatoes......... and the sun's shining and it's warm. We even have a "Woolly bear" caterpillar. ![]() Unfortunately something has eaten all the sprouts! ![]() The celery, on the other hand, is getting even better. ![]() ...... and so is the sweetcorn. ![]() Beans have been a bit of a failure. ![]() We trimmed the grapevine back today. Amazing how quickly it's covered the shed and the seating area. ![]() Tidied the back wall up today as well. ![]() Did a bit of weeding as well. ![]() Still a few roses left by the seating area. ![]() In fact the seating area's looking pretty good for mid-September. ![]() ..... and finally, after over three hours tidying up, the compost heap was the highest it's ever been. |
