Started to re-cover the potatoes with what was usable from the compost heap.
After covering all of the exposed potatoes we used up the rest of the usable compost from the compost bin onto various beds and then made it ready to receive the next eight months worth of compostibles etc.
Put some "wigwam" bean canes up next to the mange-tout.
We discovered we'd got some carrot seeds on some "bio-degradable tape" so we thought we'd sow it and see what happens. The idea is that because carrot seeds are so small, and notoriously difficult to sow evenly, you just lay down this tape which has evenly spaced seeds on it and then cover it over. Sounds good in theory so we'll see what happens.
Pictured below is just one piece of tape but we laid about two metres as well as some loose carrot seeds that we'd already got.
We then placed a network of wooden sticks across the carrot bed to discourage anything from entering the bed and disturbing the seeds/seedlings.
We put a thick material covering (lino actually!) around the base of the gooseberry in the large fruit cage to discourage weeds etc.
The comfrey bed is a mass of flowers and colour at the moment. The bees are loving it.
