Still no sign of prolonged rain so had to water again as this is the last chance before Katie's wedding. No accompanying photos but we did pick the rest of the red gooseberries, more blackberries and raspberries, and a load of blackcurrants,

We hadn't been down for over a week - not good this time of year, you need to go down at least once a week for a few hours. So we planted a bed of celeriac, parsnips and sweetcorn and fed everything else. We completely used two bottles of feed and drained most of the water butts. The pictures below are just a general overview of the plot as it is today. Our lone pumpkin is gradually getting bigger with over four months of growing in front of it. Popped down for literally half an hour to pick a few things.
Heavy rain and storms are forecast overnight. Weather forecast for the day is pretty appalling from about ten o'clock onwards so went down and picked as the weather has been OK all week up to now.
Picked the rest of the blueberries and also the rest of the onions in the one bed. The sunshine recently has started turning the tomatoes red and there looks to be a good crop this year, Following some extensive pruning and cutting back in the garden we had nine bags of material for the compost bins.
We've been down a couple of times recently but it was just to pick what was ready and each visit was barely ten minutes, so no blog was done, Below is some of the produce we've picked over the last couple of weeks and a view of very full compost bins, Went down today to feed some of the veg and water pretty much everything and to pick whatever is available to be picked.
We have now collected all the potatoes from the one bed and collected all of the blackberries. Note that we've also been down a couple of times in the last fortnight but purely to pick so I didn't bother with the blog. Produce pictures below. We're keeping on top of the picking this year. Small amounts but more frequent visits. We've been down and picked three times in the last seven days. These are the results......
Despite the temperature still being 30*C at 7:00PM we went and picked some more produce; although we did stop for a McFlurry on the way back.
Just picked, nothing else; and what we picked is below. Working Saturday so went down the allotment today. Handy really as Saturday is forecast wet. Planted Sweet peas, outdoor cucumbers and Gourdes up the "Wigwams". Put in the posts for the fruit cage, including posts for a new entrance opposite the "picnic" area, In the top bed we planted four rows of carrot seeds and a few turnips, while down by the cemetery wall we planted yellow courgettes and several Yacon. All the other plants are doing very nicely too. Had some old tiles off Becky and they made a wonderful edge for a bed around the grapevine. Blackberries are in full flower. |
