Following Janice's major surgery we had to let the allotment return to nature (almost).
This was our first meaningful visit for nine months and so as not to overdo it at the first attempt we just concentrated on some gentle weeding, and only for a couple of hours.
Below are around thirty photographs of the allotment before we started the restoration and I probably won't post any more photo's until we are on top of it, and at that point I'll post the tidier version.
This is the top, long bed where we usually plant squashes and pumpkins.
The top, small, fruit cage.
Looking down to the wild flower bed with the large fruit cage on the right.
Another shot of the top fruit cage.
Looking towards Graham's plot from the top fruit cage with the asparagus bed straight ahead.
The remains of the sweetcorn.
Looking across towards Ryan's plot from the asparagus and sweetcorn beds.
This is the bed running alongside the bottom fruit cage. Not as full of weeds as some of the other beds.
This was last years potato bed; not much in there now other than weeds. To the left, before the fruit cage, should have been last years onions.
This is the bed to the left in the above picture, alongside the main fruit cage. That's a pretty big weed in the middle of it!
This is the carrot and wallflower bed with some of the wallflowers still there in the distance.
The leeks are to the right of this bed which seems to have been taken over by brambles. This bed had mange-tout and broad beans in it originally.
Part of the inside of the large fruit cage.
Looking across the plot from the rhubarb over to the smaller fruit cage and Brian's polytunnel.
Looking across to Graham's plot from the middle of our plot with the blueberry bath on the left.
Looking down towards the compost heap and the blueberry bath.
The grapevine covering the shed. Needs tidying a bit.
Shed, compost heap and blueberry bath.
The fruit cage.
Seating/picnic/eating area. Needs a bit of a sweep!!
Looking down towards the cemetery wall.
The bottom two very dry beds near the cemetery wall. At the top of the photo are the artichokes.
From the top of the plot looking across towards the cemetery.
From the top of the plot looking straight down towards the shed.
The corner of the bottom fruit cage.
Looking from the top corner of our plot and Graham's plot, towards the shed and canes with the cemetery in the background.
